Classes are based on the British National Curriculum, and every day consists of lessons based on the weekly theme and early childhood development skills. All lessons are delivered in English, but it is not required that a student be a native speaker or come with any knowledge of English. Classes are divided into 3 levels – starters, movers, and flyers. Level placement is determined after a thorough assessment of English aptitude, fine and gross motor skills, and social and emotional development. Each class attends 3 lessons with different teachers to ensure a thorough and diverse learning experience. In addition to morning classes, students will attend one music and one recorder lesson each week.

Our staff are professionals carefully selected for their educational background, teaching experience, and passion for child development. Together we strive to encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, promote cooperative social interactions, and support individual creativity and diversity. Our goal is to care for each individual child’s needs while preparing them with the necessary skills to transition them to preschool.

Preschool Information

Meridian International School is proud to have a successful learning orientated, safe, friendly and growing Preschool section.

At Meridian, the Preschool section is equal to the British “Key Stage 1” level of learning, and can be considered “Grade 0” by Czech standards (preparatory year for Grade 1and Key Stage 2). This preparatory year is mandatory under Czech law.

The Preschool section is home to pupils aged between five and six years old. Students are exposed to and taught by native English teachers, with a positive and learning focused teacher/pupil ratio of classes with a maximum of sixteen students (one teacher and an assistant per class).

The Preschool section is part of the Kindergarten & Preschool building, which is connected to the Primary school section. This building is located at Frýdlantská 1, Prague 8.

Preschool students are taught four core subjects: English, mathematics, science (basics of biology), and social studies (geography and history). English and mathematics are taught every day, whilst science and social studies are taught twice a week. Additionally, students are also exposed to and prepared for subjects that are taught in the Primary School section, such as design and technology, information technology, art and music.

At Meridian, to help our students achieve in primary school and beyond, preschoolers begin to study and develop a strong foundation in reading comprehension, mathematics, science and social studies. At the same time, however, since they are young children, they are also offered outlets to spend their energy in activities like yoga, dance, arts and crafts, as well as physical education.

To ensure high student achievement, teachers are given appropriate resources and materials so that students are successful.
